What we do
Haworth RDA is a non-profit making charity established in 2001 with one rider, one pony and three volunteers. In the last twelve years we have grown significantly and now cater for over 160 + riders, have 10 specially trained horses and over 46 volunteers.
We offer people with physical and learning disabilities horse riding and stable management lessons throughout the year. The minimum age for our riders is four years old and we have no upper age limit.
Horse riding improves core strength, flexibility, suppleness of limb and develops fine and gross motor skills. In addition, the social interaction increases confidence, self-esteem and social skills.
All lessons are led by qualified RDA group instructors and focus on learning in a fun and friendly way with the playing of games, riding to music and verbal interaction. We have access to a physiotherapist and have a Child Development Officer, both of which can custom fit riding plans to each individual rider’s needs ensuring maximum therapeutic benefit.
A programme of social activity is also available to everyone.
We cater for grass root riders who wish to have fun and exsperience the feel of riding and to improve their balance and coordination.
We also promote riders who want to go that step further and improve their knowledge and skills enabling them to enter competitions .
We offer the chance to compete locally in the qualifiers for the RDA National Championships in May of each year. Full support is given by our staff and dedicated volunteers for anyone wishing to take part. For those riders with a learning disabilty who wish to join the Special Olympics we are affiliated to Bradford Disabilty Sports and Leisure and compete under their banner for the Yorkshire & Humberside Team.
We have a ceiling weight for all our riders
Balanced riders-- 12st-8lb
unbalenced riders 10st 9lb
Penny (machnical horse) 16st.
Overall we are a friendly approachable group aimed at providing the experience of riding our horses in an enjoyable environment.
